U.S. Supreme Court Allows Trump to Proceed with Dismantling Department of Education

Washington, July 14, 2025 (Xinhua) – The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday allowed President Donald Trump’s administration to move forward with its plan to dismantle the Department of Education, overturning a lower court injunction issued in May.

In an emergency ruling supported by a 6-3 vote, the Supreme Court lifted the lower court order that had required the administration to reinstate employees who were laid off en masse.

On May 22, Federal Judge Myong Joon in Boston had ordered the Trump administration to reinstate approximately 1,400 employees of the department who had been affected by the mass layoffs.
